Hi Yakumo.

The way we measure forwarding rates is with an end-to-end measurement. Our
set up is like this:

SOURCE MACHINE <----ethernet----> ROUTER <----ethernet----> DEST MACHINE

We generate traffic on SOURCE MACHINE at a given rate and send it through
ROUTER toDEST. DEST MACHINE measures the arriving packet rate. This should
be the same as the sending rate. If it is less, then ROUTER is overloaded.
The rate at which overload first occurs, is called the maximum loss-free
forwarding rate.

You need (1) a traffic generator -- the Click distribution includes a Linux
module udpgen.o and a Click configuration make-udpgen.pl; (2) a router --
either a Click configuration or you need to set up your machine's routing
table correctly; and (3) a traffic measurer for DEST MACHINE -- the Click
distro includes a Linux module udpcount.o and a Click configuraiton
make-udpcount.pl

love,
ed
