[chord] Proximity question

To Whom It May Concern:
I know that Chord was not originally designed to consider network proximity.
I am writing about Chord in a book that is going to be published soon.
Would you please let me know if Chord is currently using proximity? Or would
you let me know where I can find such information? I appreciate your
responding to my question.
