[Click] Patchless Installation Possible?

Some discussion threads from earlier this year talked about installing Click
with kernel modules without patching the kernel.  Is this possible?  Are
there special options I need to pass to configure?  Is it only known to work
with certain kernel versions?  I am currently attempting to install from the
latest source in the git repository.
