Thank you very much for providing this patch!!  I have checked in a variant of 
your patch to the repository.  It differs from your patch in a couple ways.

- Free leftover _qpkt in cleanup()
- Drop a queued packet after 250ms
- Reset counters in reset_counts()

Please take a look.
