[Click] About writing to file other than /var/log/messages

Dear All,
Kindly ignore my earlier question about redirect to file as I manage to get Eddie's
answer in reply to another person in the March 2003 archive. However, I have another query to ask :
What's mean by 'use the kernel interface to files(basically, the virtual file system)'? It is the
var/log/message? Kindly advise.
