kernel panic

Hi,
I installed linux kernel 2.4.9, applied the kernel patch
that came with click and everything compiled without an
error. However, while booting with the new kernel, when eth0
is being initialized, i get a kernel panic. The ethernet
board is
Ethernet controller: Accton Technology Corporation SMC2-1211TX (rev 10)
and the driver is
8139too.o

without the patch, 2.4.9 initializes eth0 without any problems.

Any ideas?
