Holly, here is a rack-mount box much less expensive than the IBM 4500R
that also meets the criteria Robert outlined.  We've had good luck
with it.

    We've had great success with Pentium III CPUs, motherboards based on
    the ServerWorks LE chipset, and Intel Pro/1000 F gigabit ethernet
    adaptors.
    
    The reason to use the ServerWorks chipset is that it has a 64bit/66mHz
    PCI bus, which is required to get good performance for gigabit
    ethernet. Tyan and SuperMicro sell motherboards with this
    chipset. Some IBM servers are based on the ServerWorks; try the 4500R
    (maybe called the xSeries 340). Make sure it has 64bit/66mHz PCI.
