this morning i spent some time reading books in the CSCO technical
expert series. there seem to be at least two books worthwhile reading:

	- CISCO switched internetworks
	- CISCO TCP/IP routing professional reference

both give a real-world view of how routers and switches are employed.
it was highly informative.  the author of both books is Chris Lewis.
we should get a copy of each book, and each of us should at least skim the
content.
