[chord] Question regarding hashing used in Chord

Dear Sir:
I was going thru the Chord protocol and had a doubt
regarding the identifier used to map a node. The
paper says that SHA-1 function is used to generate
keys which are then placed on the Chord ring. My
doubt is that since SHA-1 function generates a 160-bit
then how do perform the mapping of successor notes coz
to do that 160 bit operations are necessary. I wanted
to know whether the hash value used is a 160-bit or
has been modified to suit the implementation.
