mostly matters to me and whoever will be using the system in a smaller
setting... but... if performance of inserts gets 5 times worse when there
are barely 10,000 blocks (8K*10000 = 80,000,000 bytes), that seems poor.
but then, in a real large chord system, perhaps routing cost is higher
than this overhead...
